DESCRIPTION:Date: November 12\, 2025\n\nTime: 10:00 a.m.\n\nLocation: Etowah Library\n\nSpeakers: Pam Torlina\, Community Engagement Director\, Conserving Carolina\n\nWe need to protect the night sky if we are to conserve biodiversity in our natural world. This presentation will focus on the negative effects of light pollution on amphibians\, birds\, mammals and insects. It will also outline simple steps we can all take to reduce light pollution.\n\n \n\nTorlina\, a biologist\, has been with the Conservancy for 19 years. She has nearly 20 years of experience as a field biologist\, naturalist\, and outdoor educator. She has worked with the South Carolina State Park Service\, the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation-Youth Bureau\, the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation\, and Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve\, in Haliburton\, Ontario\, Canada\, where she has performed annual migratory and breeding bird surveys\, surveys on nocturnal owls\, hawks and woodpeckers\, presented educational programs on birds for adults and children\, conducted nest searches and nest record data in the U.S. and Canada\, she has volunteered with a licensed bird bander\, and she has participated in data collection for the most recent Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas and is currently a co-coordinator for the North Carolina Bird Atlas\, region 9.\n\n \n\n*Space is limited and pre-registration is required by visiting the Etowah Library's calendar of events at this link! \n\n\n\nThe Etowah Library Speaker Series programs are made possible thanks to our partnership with the Henderson County Public Library.\n\nContact Pam Torlina\, pam@conservingcarolina.org\, with questions or for more information.
