Accounting Manager

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees the organization’s finance and accounting operations, including grant fund tracking, financial reporting, and select administrative functions. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all financial statements and analyses, while maintaining fiscal records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Accounting Manager also contributes to improving systems, processes, and reporting for greater efficiency and transparency.

This position reports directly to the Finance Director.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial and Accounting Operations

· Collaborate with the Finance Director and Project Accountant to ensure the accurate and timely recording of daily transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and credit card transactions.

· Maintain an accounting system that complies with GAAP and supports accurate financial reporting.

· Ensure adherence to internal control procedures and financial policies.

· Prepare and review month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules (e.g., net assets, investments, payroll allocations, etc.).

· Oversee revenue and expense recognition and ensure appropriate classifications.

· Monitor cash flow and investment balances and prepare cash flow forecasts.

· Assist in developing and monitoring the annual operating budget and preparing monthly financial reports.

· Perform year-end closing procedures and support external audit preparation.

· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and automation within accounting functions.

· Cross-train on other key financial and reporting duties for operational continuity.

Grant Tracking and Reporting

· Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for all grants and restricted funds.

· Allocate expenses to specific grants or restricted gifts in accordance with donor requirements and compliance standards.

· Support the Grants Manager with grant application, tracking, and reporting processes.

· Maintain tracking systems for active and pending grants, including federal, state, local, foundation, and private awards.

· Collaborate on developing and revising grant budgets; oversee post-award compliance.

· Ensure grant revenue recognition aligns with related expenditures; reconcile unearned income and restricted balances.

· Track reimbursement requests, monitor funding cycles, and ensure all reporting deadlines are met.

· Participate in monthly review meetings with finance and program staff.

· Assist with grant monitoring, audits, and year-end reconciliations for financial statement and Single Audits.

Finance-Related Administration

· Oversee insurance renewals, documentation, and compliance reporting.

· Support HR functions including benefits administration, payroll processing, and wage allocations.

· Review property management financial reports for accuracy and compliance.

· Maintain vehicle registration, insurance, inspection, and maintenance records.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited institution.

· 3–5 years of general ledger and grant accounting experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

· Experience with federal and state grant reporting preferred.

· Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).

· Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

· Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $63,000.00 - $69,000.00 per year
